The Black Scholar’s Responsibility to Black America
While there should be more Black youth enrolled in higher education, there is a significant population of African Americans that matriculate at our nation’s finest institutions. Too often, these scholars drift through their undergraduate careers without paying the social debt they owe to the Black community. Even worse, after they graduate, many join the ranks of corporate America and lose sight of fixing the crumbling foundation of Black America.
I will discuss the importance of role models in the Black community. It is our duty to encourage the youth which grow up being influenced to underachieve. In the age of Obama, the destruction of degenerate Black mentalities begins with the leadership of America’s Black scholars.
Be The American Dream: Master of Your Fate, Captain of Your Soul!
Lorenzo, the bus driver in A Bronx Tale, constantly warned his son Cologero that “the saddest thing in life is wasted talent.” This is truly a message we need to heed. America was built on ambition, determination, and entrepreneurship. Too often we are convinced to subscribe to lifestyles that hinder us from using our potential to the best of our ability. I encourage you in the words of William Ernest Henly to “Be The Master of Your Fate, Be The Captain Of Your Soul!” Don’t settle for being boxed into mainstream America’s confinements. Get up, get out, and change the world today!
